"He had an impressive season, became the top scorer in the Copa America, scoring in the final. He deserves the Ballon d'Or more than anyone else," La Gazzetta dello Sport quoted Messi as saying.
As a reminder, Argentina won the 2024 Copa America final against Colombia (1-0) thanks to a goal by Lautaro Martinez in the 112th minute of the game.
