UEFA appointed referees for the match of the 4th round of the main stage of the Europa League between Kyiv’s Dynamo and Hungarian Ferencváros, which will take place next Thursday, November 7, in Hamburg.
All referees represent Sweden. The referee on the field is Mohammed al-Hakim, who is originally from Iraq. He will be assisted on the lines by Fredrik Klüver and Max-Robin Wilde. Also, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be employed during the match, led by Pol van Boekel from the Netherlands.
As for the main referee of the upcoming match, the 39-year-old al-Hakim has only recently officiated international matches, since 2015, and he has officiated a total of 72 such matches (combined at the club level and at the national team level in competitions of all age categories).
This will not only be al-Hakim’s first time officiating Kyiv’s Dynamo - he has not yet worked on matches involving Ukrainian clubs in general. However, at the national team level, this Swedish referee with Iraqi roots is familiar with Ukrainian football. Just recently, he was the main referee for the final part of the U-21 Euro 2023 match Ukraine (U-21) vs. Croatia (U-21) - 2:0. Prior to that, he also officiated the qualifying match of the Youth European Championship (U-19) 2019 between Ukraine and Albania (1:0).
