Myron Markevych: “The Ukrainian national team still has chances to avoid relegation from League B of the Nations League”

Honored coach of Ukraine Myron Markevych talked about what he expects from the Nations League match between the national teams of Georgia and Ukraine, which will take place this Saturday, November 16, in Batumi.

“With two losses at the start (to Albania, 1:2, and the Czech Republic, 2:3, — note from the editor), the Ukrainian team nearly put themselves in a dead end. Nevertheless, the four points gained in October still leave chances, at least, to avoid relegation from League ‘B’ of the Nations League.

For this, it is necessary to win against the Georgians in Batumi. Since in the paired matches Ukrainians perform better in the first half, we will rely on Saturday.

I agree, our next adversary has been in the spotlight lately, but we should take a cue from the Albanians, who defeated the Georgians away in the previous round. Why shouldn’t we aim for the maximum result, especially since in terms of player selection, Ukrainians have an advantage over both Georgians and Albanians.

Of course, much will depend on the choice of helmsman Sergey Rebrov: what tactical scheme he will settle on, whether he will trust a spot in the starting lineup to players who lack sufficient match practice, and whether Yefim Konoplya will cope with the host leader Khvicha Kvaratskhelia?

I hope that the strongest will play in Batumi and show their best qualities. My prediction? 1:0 — in favor of the Ukrainian national team,” said Markevych.
