Not all Ukrainian fans managed to get to Georgia without problems ahead of the Georgia — Ukraine match in the Nations League.
The Georgian authorities organized a “warm welcome” for some of them.
According to UA-Football, this especially applies to Kutaisi airport. After arrival, passengers from several flights went through passport control in the usual manner, however, all male individuals with Ukrainian passports were singled out separately. This included a father with his son. Among them were Ukrainian fans who came for the match. Each of them was personally interrogated in a separate room by a migration inspector: about the purpose and timing of their trip (which is standard) to their current place of work and residence. At the same time, he recorded all the data and made copies of their passports. The delays lasted up to one hour.
At the same time, men of all other nationalities passed through control without issues. This included those with passports from the Russian Federation. When asked “Why is this? Why only Ukrainians?” the inspector replied: “These are the rules in Georgia.”
