Former forward of “Karpaty”, “Tavriya”, “Hoverla” and Kyiv’s “Arsenal” Maksym Feshchuk assessed the national team of Ukraine’s performance in the Nations League.
“If we summarize the performance in the Nations League as a whole, we must analyze each match separately. After the disappointing Euro, given the national team’s high potential, we could have performed better.
I do not agree that there are teams in this group that are stronger than Ukraine. The Czechs, of course, were slightly better, but I believe we can play better. In my opinion, we should have been stronger than the Czechs. Based on our potential and expectations, we were capable of winning this group.
We were a step away from elimination. But one victory secured second place. Everyone was winning against everyone, and the final result ensured that we did not get eliminated at least. If that had happened, it would have been a failure for me.
I sympathize with the players of the national team and the team as a whole. But the first game at the Euro left a bitter taste.
New players are being called up to the national team. The same Kaluzhny, Nazarenko, Hutsuliak, who plays consistently, Sych. Rebrov is calling up new players — the work is underway. If you ask me about the leader, I would say that Heorhii Sudakov is the one. He does a lot for the team. He provides creativity, speed.
And Zinchenko shows his leadership qualities, and Yaremchuk scored a good goal. But Sudakov is number one. I would like Ukraine to play more as the first number, but there are circumstances. On what scale would you assess the performance in the Nations League? A little above average,” said Feshchuk.
