Oleg Fedorchuk: “It would be advantageous for the Ukrainian national team to play in the playoffs against the Belgians”

Ukrainian coach Oleg Fedorchuk talked about whom it would be beneficial for the Ukrainian national team to meet in the playoffs for promotion in the Nations League.

— It’s pleasing that the players of Serhiy Rebrov, although they almost got themselves into a dead end, still preserved their chances to qualify for League A. Everything will be decided next March in the playoffs.

Whom would you like the draw to pick as opponents for the Ukrainians? Just not Scotland. This is a fast-paced team, uncompromising and very unpleasant for the current Ukrainian national team, whose play in every match resembles riding on a swing: a surge of activity, then — calm. And can it be otherwise if teams that can maintain a high pace and provide intensity have practically disappeared from the UPL? The exception is “Rukh,” but the level of performers in Lviv lets them down.

Therefore, in my opinion, it would be beneficial for Serhiy Rebrov’s players to play in the playoffs against the Belgians, who have noticeably declined. We must take advantage of the fact that the Belgians are still convinced of their high class, but after the departure of players like Kevin De Bruyne, they can no longer boast of a “star” lineup.

But what worries me is that these playoffs are scheduled for March, when the Ukrainian footballers are still not in the best sporting shape. Our time is the end of autumn. This factor Serhiy Rebrov should definitely take into account and ensure that come spring, his players are in good condition,” Fedorchuk said.
