Defender of «Alexandria» Miguel Kampush spoke about his adaptation in Ukraine amidst the war.
— Tell me how your transfer to «Alexandria» happened?
— I played for the Croatian club «Rudes», and I had a friend Ivan Tomechak, who played with Ruslan Rotan in «Dnipro». I don’t know all the details, maybe the coach asked him about a central defender. They talked about me, asked how I was doing. Then I found out that «Alexandria» was interested.
I had a meeting, and I asked a few questions about the situation here. I was assured that it was calm here. They explained it to me. My girlfriend was crying at that time; she didn’t want to leave. It was hard, but I knew I had made the right decision.
— After a year in Ukraine, what shocked you from the perspective of everyday life?
— The way the Ukrainian people live in conditions of war. It’s impressive because I can’t imagine how one can continue to live without water and electricity. People are not afraid. It really touched me to the core. I was truly moved by the spirit of Ukrainians.
— What are your impressions of Ukraine? Are you here alone?
— My girlfriend is here with me.
— Has she adapted to life in Ukraine?
— At first no, but then she started making friends with local girls. She is integrating here; she likes the people, not the cold weather. (Smiles).
— Transfermarkt reports that your contract ends at the end of the season
— Sasha, that’s not true! I have a contract with «Alexandria» until June 2026...
— Do you know who from your fellow countrymen played in Ukraine before?
— I remember Veloso well in «Dynamo». Was there anyone else?
— Antunes.
— I remember him. He also played for the national team.
