On Monday, December 16, in the match of the 17th round of the Ukrainian Championship, Kyiv’s “Dynamo” defeated Rivne’s “Veres” with a score of 1:0. The match took place in Kyiv at the Dynamo Stadium named after Valeriy Lobanovskyi. Here is the post-match press conference of the guest team’s head coach Oleg Shandruk.
Oleg Shandruk. Photo — Yu. Yuriev— The last game. I think that, overall, it was quite good for the fans. We always say that we do everything to ensure that our fans enjoy the game above all. I think today, despite the difficult weather conditions and the state of the pitch, the fans saw a good game from both teams.
We made conclusions after the match against “Karpaty” (0:5, — ed. note) in the previous round. In that game, we did not look tactically disciplined. We made adjustments, and today the team looked more cohesive in the defensive phase. Yes, considering the level of the opponent, we understood that we would still have to endure while playing without the ball and try to show our strong qualities — counterattacking play. Overall, we managed to do this: we created moments, we had opportunities for high pressing. But, of course, in a match against “Dynamo,” we cannot press like that on a constant basis.
We are a bit disappointed with the result if we analyze the game as a whole, as we had our moments.
— What did the team lack to achieve a positive result today?
— Perhaps my answer will be banal: we lacked composure in the moments we created. We lacked quality in finishing attacks and counterattacks. Haiduchik and Stepanuk had excellent chances. Plus, some decisions could have been better — we could have managed the ball better in those episodes. We had problems with this in previous matches as well. Well, we need to work on raising our skill level through training.
— You made two substitutions during injury time. Why so late?
— The game was going well for us. And coming on as a substitute is not always easy. Perhaps we delayed a bit with these substitutions, but literally by 2–3 minutes.
