Former defender of «Volyn»: «The main reason for the club's collapse was the war»

The defender of «Oleksandriya» Oleksandr Martyniuk, who previously played for «Volyn», spoke about the reasons for the cessation of the existence of the Lutsk club.

— What do you remember about the collapse of «Volyn», how did it happen?

— In the last year, Albert Shakhov came, and even then we understood that such financing as before would no longer be available. At that time, we had a very young squad, many guys were from U-19. The young footballers who were there remained under quite modest conditions, and when the contract terms expired, everyone parted ways. It was clear that everything was leading to the cessation of existence because no one was inviting more or less known football players to «Volyn».

Probably, the main reason for the collapse of «Volyn» was the war. After the start of the full-scale invasion, it was officially announced that the club was ceasing to exist, at least temporarily.

— So, if it weren't for the war, do you think that «Volyn» would still be playing?

— I think so, but at the level of the first or second league. But who knows, maybe they would have found some funding, sponsors, and set the goal of reaching UPL. But in the last year, we had no ambitious goals, we were told to stay at the level of the first league. The main thing is to survive this year, and next year something might change, but it happened as it happened. Now, only some team is playing at the regional level and in DYFL.
