Sergiy Rebrov: «The players of the Ukrainian national team have no desire because they are very tired not only from football but

The head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Sergiy Rebrov, commented on his words about the lack of leadership qualities in the team.

Sergiy Rebrov

«You know, sometimes they interview you after a game when your emotions are running high, and you say something — I don’t even remember what I said in that interview. But perhaps I could have said that there is no desire.

As I said, many players come tired, I see it in their eyes. Yes, I believe that these are high-level players and now these players are the best in their positions. But I see that they have no desire because they are very tired not only from football but also from the entire situation.

That’s why sometimes you make the decision to give a chance to other players. Their level may be slightly lower, but I see desire in them, I see that they will come out and work a hundred percent.

I'll give an example of Kalyuzhny. When he came and played this game with the national team of Georgia — it was really an example for all players. I do not consider that Ivan has great technical qualities, but he understands the game. He really gives everything on the field — it’s an example for all players. As I said after the game, he probably made 50-60 tackles for the whole team because he played thanks to his desire.

When you compare Ivan’s game with that of some players, fans may think: ‘These players work less, give less to the national team.’ But players have different characters, different abilities. Some are really fighters on the field, some are completely dedicated in tackles and struggles, while others work better technically for the team. That’s why I always say it’s important for the team to have balance.

For example, Messi, during his play, did not defend at all. Just like we had in his time, Vitya Leonenko. And Valeriy Vasilyovych told him: ‘Vitya, if you go out and score two goals — the whole team will work for you, no questions. But if you don’t work and don’t score those two goals, then, Vitya, what did you do on the field?’

And we learned from these tips from the Coach. This question is always relevant — each player must understand that he must work for the team both in defense and in attack,» — said Rebrov.

І таке бува що так хочеться на передову замість того щоб грати у футбол. Я розумію що інколи є втома. Але у таких гравців точно чого нема це совісті.
