Merlin Polcin was promoted from interim to permanent head coach of the German club Hamburg after he achieved two wins and three draws in the last five games, bringing the team to 3rd place in the Second Bundesliga.
The 34-year-old Polcin was part of Stefan Baumgart's staff, who was dismissed due to a series of poor results in November.
Polcin hails from Hamburg, known for being part of the team's ultras during his teenage years. Later, he decided to help his favorite team in a different way—he started working as a youth coach in the 2012/2013 season, initially working with younger children and then 'growing' with them. Since 2020, he has been consistently working with the first team as an assistant.
