Brentford head coach Thomas Frank commented on the swing of Brighton forward Joao Pedro Jesus in the incident with Ukrainian midfielder Yegor Yarmolyuk.
«I saw that episode. I think it’s a red card. You cannot swing your arm like that. If you want to swing your arm, it doesn’t matter if you hit or not — it’s a red card. My obligations to you, the media, mean that I haven’t been able to speak with the referee yet. I will have a good conversation. I understand it’s not easy to get everything right,» Frank said for Amazon Prime.
Later, in a comment for BBC Match of the Day, the 51-year-old coach also noted that this incident deserves a red card.
«Was Joao Pedro’s removal necessary? Yes. As far as I understand the rules, if you swing your arms to hit someone, regardless of whether you hit or not, it’s a red card,» Frank explained.
Recall that Yegor Yarmolyuk started the match against Brighton on the substitute bench, he came on the field in the 72nd minute, and in the 76th he fouled the Brazilian. He swung his elbow at the Ukrainian, but did not hit Yegor in the head. VAR reviewed the episode, but the main referee of the match did not receive a recommendation to review the episode or to send off the Brighton player.
