Discipline in UPL: exemplary “Dynamo”, problematic “Polissia”

In football, there are no small details. These words of the Master of Ukrainian football Valeriy Lobanovskyi have long become an axiom. Discipline in sports has always been at the forefront of results. To be precise, it is discipline that distinguished the teams of Valeriy Vasilyovych, who achieved success not only in the domestic arena but also on the international stage, which seems an unattainable mission for modern Ukrainian teams...

FootBoom collected and analyzed the discipline rating of UPL teams in the current season and obtained interesting results. This rating is calculated very simply: all warnings and expulsions are counted, one penalty point is awarded for a yellow card, and three for a red one. Probably, it is not coincidental that the top three places correspond to the tournament positions of the teams after the first part of the season. Thus, the first place in our ranking is occupied by the leader of the championship—Dynamo. The Dynamo players have only 16 warnings in 17 rounds—if Oleksandr Shovkovskyi's charges continue this way, they could set a league record for the minimum number of penalties in a season.

The “Oleksandriia” team is also distinguished by its discipline, so it's not surprising that Ruslan Rotan's team is leading in terms of performance as well. However, both “Dynamo” and “Koloss” have not yet received any red cards.

“Shakhtar” demonstrates decent discipline in the domestic arena, but Marіno Pushich's team was significantly let down by a single red card. Recall that in the central match of the first round “Dynamo”—“Shakhtar,” Mykola Kryskiv was sent off at the beginning of the second half with a score of 0:1 in favor of the “miners.” As a result, the guests, left with fewer players, had to settle for a draw (1:1). And three penalty points pushed “Shakhtar” to third place in our ranking.

A bit surprising is the last place in the ranking for the Zhytomyr “Polissia.” Indeed, Iymad Ashur's team is characterized by an aggressive style of play, but 43 warnings and three expulsions (a record for the season) over half a season is probably too much... Among the biggest offenders are also “Veres,” “Left Bank,” and LNZ.
