Former midfielder of Volyn Andriy Bohdanov spoke about working under the management of Vitalii Kvarzyany at the Lutsk club.
— Did people who had nothing to lose end up at Volyn with Kvarzyany?
— To be honest, there was a very cool period at Volyn. We had a great team, and we stayed in the UPL, despite the fact that the club was deducted 18 points! Now take 18 points away from someone, and I’ll see how they stay in the top league. If we hadn’t been penalized, we could have really fought for a European Cup spot.
— What was it like working with Kvarzyany?
— It was very interesting there (smiles, — note by D. V.). Vitalii Volodymyrovych is a passionate person during games, but everything went well at training. The theories were also memorable. Sometimes he would get fired up… Kvarzyany is a very well-read and educated person who understands many fields. It was interesting to listen to him.
— How did you endure his emotional pressure?
— Well, I endured like this for ten months, after which I decided to leave the team.
— What was the most memorable reprimand from Kvarza?
— It was after the return match with Zorya in the Cup, when we lost 0:5. He dropped me and Volodya Polovyi off the bus, and we took a minibus to Lutsk.
— And why exactly did you and Polovyi get singled out?
— Well, yes. For every game, someone new would get picked. This time it was our turn. However, I have no resentment towards Vitalii Volodymyrovych. Only gratitude that he took me on the team. It was a wonderful period in Lutsk that I will always remember. Superb.
— Did anyone ever dare to respond to Kvarzyany?
— Everyone responded.
— And what happened after that?
— Well, nothing. We could talk in raised voices, but that’s just emotions.
— What was the hardest training day with Kvarzyany at the camp?
— Waking up at 06:15 and jogging in the forest for seven to eight kilometers. Then we came back for breakfast and went for an hour and a half training. After that, we returned for lunch, took a nap, and had another hour and a half of training. The last session was stretching before sleep.
— To sleep better?
— Well, yes. To fall asleep right away without legs.
