On Tuesday, January 21, in the match of the 7th round of the main stage of the Europa League, Kyiv's Dynamo drew 3:3 with Turkish Galatasaray. The match took place in Istanbul. We present to your attention the post-match press conference of Dynamo's head coach Oleksandr Shovkovskyi.

I want to thank the Turkish community and Turkey once again for the warm attitude the team receives while being here for training. We feel the support regarding the situation that is happening in our country.

We understood well that the opponent's team is in form, playing their matches in the Turkish championship, sitting in first place in the standings, and having a very strong attack and effective use of set pieces.

Unfortunately, according to the scenario of the game, we made mistakes at the beginning of the first half and also at the beginning of the second half, specifically during set pieces - after corners. We understand that we need to work on this.

A separate story is, of course, the support that Galatasaray receives when playing at home with their fans, and this is a compliment to the Turkish fans. It is always nice to play in front of a packed stadium, and even more so when there is such crazy support. Unfortunately, we do not have this in our country due to the ongoing war.

Speaking of the fans, I drew our players' attention to the fact that it is important to cope with their emotions before the game so that they do not interfere with us in organizing both defense and attack. On the other hand, we spoke about how important it is to make the right decisions when organizing play, both in defense and in attack. And we had problems in this regard, especially in the first half and in the second half of the match. We did not make the decisions we had agreed upon. I hope this was simply due to the emotional state and the crazy support that the stadium provided and the pressure that our players felt during the match.

We had to manage the ball a bit more calmly during the transition to attack, as there were some very good moments that needed to be utilized. The decisions made and technical errors did not allow us to attack more successfully. I wouldn't say anything about the finishing actions, but I mean the stage when we had great opportunities to conduct very effective attacks with high chances of scoring.

And the main point is, of course, that even with an unfavorable score of 0:2 and 1:3, we continued to play, trying to find our moments, and ultimately found and earned a draw.

Do you think this was Dynamo's best game in the Europa League?

When analyzing any game, we should not always tie ourselves to the result. Of course, it is very important, but sometimes the result may not objectively reflect the information. The first points in the seventh round are certainly not what we hoped for at the beginning. But we have what we have; unfortunately, the situation turned out this way, and it is a certain coincidence. Today we entered the football field to show that the team has character, and no matter how the situation develops, we will fight to the end.

Did you think before the match that you would earn points today?

We go into every match analyzing the opponent's actions. We try to make our adjustments to the game and strive to play for the maximum result in every match. The strategy may differ depending on the opponent, the situation, the circumstances, but in every game, we try to win.

At the beginning of the match, you were trailing 0:2, and went into the break with a score of 1:2. What thoughts and plans did you come out with for the second half?

At halftime, we made two substitutions, understanding that they needed to strengthen our game and stabilize the center. We were counting on the individual qualities of Andriy Yarmolenko (he scored two goals in this match, editor's note), on his confidence and experience, so we went into the second half with a great desire to score more.

You made two substitutions at halftime, bringing on Pikhalyonok and especially Yarmolenko. Do you agree that this was a key moment in the match, and after these two substitutions, the game pattern completely changed in the second half?

Definitely, when a player coming in scores two goals, it indicates that the substitution was successful. And Oleksandr delivered a corner from which Yarmolenko scored, narrowing the gap. So both substitutions were important. I remind my players that they must understand we have a starting lineup that accounts for many objective and subjective details. But our overall roster consists of 28-30 players, and everyone must be ready to step onto the football field at any moment.
