Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko shared his thoughts on the fight for survival in the elite division of the English Championship every season.
“It’s very difficult and psychologically hard when you’ve been playing for three years and every year you’re fighting for survival. It’s not easy for me. I struggle with it, but every time I go onto the pitch, I try to progress and help us avoid getting into the relegation zone.
My wife always supports me — two years ago when we were in the relegation zone, she told me every morning not to worry and everything would be fine. I remember being very anxious about the possibility of relegation from the EPL at the end of my season with the team. I couldn’t sleep because of that pressure, but it all ended well.
I fully understand our fans, as they support us in every game, and we don’t achieve results. It’s very frustrating when we lose or draw. I understand them, but as a player, I try to do everything in my power to gain points and win matches, especially at Goodison,” cites Mykolenko BBC.
