The former coach of the Ukraine U-19 national team, honored coach of Ukraine Yuriy Moroz spoke about his collaboration with the 18-year-old graduate of Kharkiv’s Metalist Hennadiy Synchuk, who will continue his career at Italian Bologna:
— First of all, in this rise of Synchuk, credit should go to one of the club’s leaders from Slobozhanshchyna, Yevhen Krasykov, who has preserved a group of 2006-born football players in this difficult time. Among them were Hennadiy Synchuk, Kyrylo Dihtyar, Danylo Kaidalov, Daniil Vernattus, who were called up to the youth national team of Ukraine that I led.
— How many years did these boys train and compete under your guidance?
— Two seasons, participated in the Euro qualifiers, and several international tournaments. Here we must give due credit to the head coach of Metalist Andriy Anishchenko, under whose care these boys progressed.
— Now let’s focus on Synchuk, what are his virtues?
— Hennadiy is a universal player, can play in any position in the midfield, although he feels most comfortable on the right wing of the midfield. His playing style resembles that of Shakhtar's Oleksandr Zubkov, and in the finishing phase — Dynamo’s Andriy Yarmolenko. He's resilient, fast, often takes the game onto himself, possesses both a precise shot and a sharp pass. He knows how to analyze his actions on the football field and draw correct conclusions. What does he lack? Aggressiveness in duels for aerial balls when it is necessary to finish off partner’s crosses. But this can be improved.
— In your opinion, why did Bologna's scouts pay attention to Synchuk's game, and not Ukrainian teams?
— I have information that Kyiv's Dynamo showed interest in Synchuk, but I don’t know why this transfer did not happen.
— How do you assess Synchuk's chances to stand out in one of the top European leagues?
— Hennadiy was taken for the prospect, and I think that over time he will be able to distinguish himself, knowing his work ethic and tenacity. Synchuk's transfer to Bologna will benefit not only him but also the Ukrainian national teams. After all, Hennadiy has everything to stand out initially in the U-21 team and then in our senior team.
