Journalist and commentator Victor Vatsko reflects on the formats of the UPL and PFL.
Victor Vatsko“We need to make the Ukrainian championship with 12 teams, or maybe even 10, to have only strong teams and admit only strong, economically powerful, and competitive clubs. So that matches between “Dynamo” and “Shakhtar”, “Kryvbas” and “Polissya”, “Karpaty” and “Oleksandriya” are intense, with no easy matches.
In this competition, players will progress and become stronger. Kevin will also become stronger so that Adeyemi doesn't push him off the field when he plays 8 matches against “Dynamo” and “Polissya”, and not 4 against “Dynamo” and “Polissya” and another 4 against “Inhulets” and “Left Bank”.
Just don’t tell me that we are such a big football country that can’t have less than 16 teams in the first league. Just look at the lower leagues of our football. In the first league, the spring part of the season starts in April. So, the first stage of the season lasts 4 months, then a 4-month break, and the second stage is in April and May. Only 8 matches in the second stage, with transitional matches a maximum of 10 matches. It's laughable.
The second league. The championship is on pause since October 28. And the second part of the season starts on April 11. A 5.5 month break, and in the second part, the teams will play a maximum of 8 games. Are we really a football country like San Marino and Malta with such an approach? We want to progress, but everyone is satisfied.
Think and change the number of teams in the leagues, the formats of the competitions, transform them into not convenient, but intriguing, interesting, competitive, and make unpopular decisions. What are you there in high offices for? To develop this football, but for now, we are stepping back. Our officials have so messed things up that we have almost hit rock bottom; we have even breached that floor with one foot,” Vatsko said on his YouTube author program.
