Today entered the history of world football with the following events.
February 22, 2006 marked a significant event in the world of football: "Barcelona" defeated "Chelsea" 2:1 in the first match of the 1/8 finals of the UEFA Champions League. This game is notable as it marked the beginning of "Barcelona’s" dominance under the guidance of Frank Rijkaard with stars like Ronaldinho and a young Lionel Messi, who was only 18 years old at the time of the mentioned match against "Chelsea".
In that season, "Barcelona" became the champion of the Champions League, beating London’s "Arsenal" 2:1 in the final of the tournament.
February 22, 2014 saw the debut of one of the most promising young players of that time - Marcus Rashford for the youth team of "Manchester United". He later became a key player for the first team and the England national team.
February 22, 2017 English "Leicester" began its historic and so far only appearance in the Champions League playoffs. In the first match of the 1/8 finals, the "Foxes" lost away to Spanish "Sevilla" (1:2), but then, achieving victory at home with a score of 2:0, progressed to the quarter-finals. However, Leicester could not achieve more that season: in the 1/4 finals of the Champions League, they lost to Madrid's "Atletico" on aggregate score (0:1, 1:1).
We remind you that in the 2015/16 season "Leicester" sensationally became the champions of England (for the first time in history).
