Today, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a draft Resolution on the Address of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the heads of state, parliaments, and governments of democratic countries of the world, the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the International World Games Association, and international sports federations regarding the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international sports competitions and the strengthening of sanctions against the sports organizations of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus (registration No. 13056).
The decision was supported by 279 members of the Ukrainian parliament.
The relevant Resolution proposes that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine addresses the heads of state, parliaments, and governments of the democratic world, the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the International World Games Association, and international sports federations with a call:
not to allow athletes from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus to participate in international competitions, considering the involvement of their citizenship states in violations of universally recognized principles and norms of international law and sports ethics;
to cancel the decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international sports competitions, in particular the XXV Deaflympic Games, which will take place from November 15, 2025, to November 26, 2025, in Tokyo (Japan);
to prohibit the participation of athletes, judges, representatives of sports organizations, and other officials from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in the World Games, which will take place from August 7 to August 17, 2025, in Chengdu (People's Republic of China);
to exclude from its composition the sports organizations of the Russian Federation that have within their structure regional sports organizations or similar structural elements from the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.
The adoption of the mentioned Resolution will become another powerful step in Ukraine's international diplomatic struggle.
