The Spanish publication AS published an analytical piece comparing the statistical indicators of two forwards, Alexander Sörloth and Artem Dovbyk.
Journalist Sergio Picos, in his article, states that “Atletico,” which was choosing between Sörloth and Dovbyk before the start of the current season, should ultimately be satisfied with the choice in favor of the Norwegian striker (at that time, Dovbyk unexpectedly backed out of the move from “Girona” to the Madrid club and went to sign a deal with “Roma” — ed.), as his statistics this season are significantly better than those of the Ukrainian striker.
For example, Sörloth scores 0.77 goals per 90 minutes, while Dovbyk scores 0.48. The Norwegian also has more earned fouls and decisive actions for the team’s victory. Furthermore, the Atletico forward takes more shots on target, makes more key passes, acts more frequently in the final third of the field, and scores winning goals more often.
On the other hand, other numbers speak in favor of Dovbyk: the Ukrainian loses the ball less and scores more first goals.
“At Atletico, there were internal doubts about which of these two forwards would perform better under Simeone's management. The coach himself highlighted the Norwegian's ability to play with his back to his own goal at the beginning of combinations as a defining element. The battle for the most goals continues, but Sörloth has a qualitative advantage. Currently, there is no regret over the lost transfer of Dovbyk to Madrid,” Picos concludes in his article.
