Details have emerged about the scandalous story concerning forward of Bayer Leverkusen Artem Stepano’s refusal to go to the Ukraine U-20 national team camp. Former journalist Igor Burbas shared this information.
“As far as I understand, Stepano had two motives. First: he said that he has already outgrown the level of this national team and asked to call him at least to U-21. From what I heard, Stepano had a conversation with Unai Melgosa (head coach of the Ukraine U-21 national team — ed. note) and he allegedly promised to involve him in the 'youth team.'
Then, an invitation for Stepano to the U-20 national team arrived at the Bayer office. As far as I understand, the player's response was this: I will not go to U-19 and U-20, call me at least to U-21. And in general, I do not feel comfortable with coaches Mykhailenko and Yezersky for U-19 and U-20, and I do not like them. So a 17-year-old person chooses which coach to go to,” Burbas said on his YouTube channel.
