Famous commentator Ihor Tsyhanyk expressed his opinion on the work of Serhii Rebrov in the Ukrainian national team.
“I have a lot of questions for Rebrov. This concerns who is called up to the national team. This concerns who works around him. I believe this is the weakest coaching staff that has ever worked in the national team.
There are many people around the national team who, it seems to me, are just profiting from football. They do not think about football, but are just trying to build a business around it. I find it strange that a person who has devoted their life to football and has been at such a high level allows themselves to be surrounded by people who are simply doing business. Because there is a very significant influence of agents on the coaching staff and specifically on the head coach. There are many examples of this.
And if you call up a player but do not play them, and this happens repeatedly, it gives me the impression that you are just “showcasing” the player. This is actually a very complicated situation. Given what is happening and the challenges that arise, I have the impression that decisions are not made independently. And if you are the national team coach, then you probably need to live in Ukraine to feel the football that exists here. To feel the mood of the people, to communicate more, to meet with youth coaches. This must be serious work. Serhii Rebrov and Andrii Shevchenko should do this. Therefore, at our time, during the presidency and coaching time, one needs to live in Ukraine,” quotes Tsyhanyk the Telegram channel FooyballHub.
