Southampton became the first team in Premier League history to be relegated with seven matches remaining in the tournament

The defeat of Southampton in the match of the 31st round of the English Championship against Tottenham (1:2) definitively put an end to the team’s chances of retaining their place in the elite division.

Head coach Ivan Yurich, who took over the team during the current campaign, was unable to change the situation. Under his leadership, the Saints earned only 10 points and were officially relegated to the Championship with seven rounds remaining in the season.

Southampton set a new tournament anti-record. Previously, Ipswich (1994/95), Derby (2007/08), Huddersfield (2018/19), and Sheffield United (2020/21) were relegated with six rounds to go in the Premier League.
