Myron Markevych: "Dynamo" can already be congratulated on the championship

Honored coach of Ukraine Myron Markevych shared his impressions of the events in the Ukrainian championship.

Myron Markevych

— I won’t be original when I say that after yesterday’s sensational defeat in the 25th round of the UPL for the players of "Shakhtar" against "Koloss" — 2:4, nothing will stop "Dynamo" from reclaiming the championship title. After all, neither should "Oleksandriya" hand over the silver medals.

— Have you found an explanation for the "miners" failure in the match against the Kovalevites?

— In terms of player selection and training level, "Shakhtar", as I see it, has no equal in Ukraine. But for some reason, the "miners" do not pay attention to the fact that the level of teams in the UPL has noticeably equalized, that straightforward matches have practically disappeared, and that in literally every match one must play beyond their limits. Why the "Shakhtar" coaching staff does not always manage to reach their charges is already a question for coach Marino Puzhych. Thus, in the confrontation with the Kovalevites, the "miners" allowed themselves, in one episode, not to run fast enough, and in another — not to engage in a duel, which led to sad consequences. The worst thing is that this attitude towards fulfilling their duties comes not only from the legionnaires but also from the Ukrainians. Now the players of "Shakhtar" can only rehabilitate themselves if they win the Ukrainian Cup.

— After yesterday’s failure of the "miners", will interest in the UPL competition sharply decline?

— I wouldn’t be so categorical. After all, intrigue remains in the battle for the Cup, as well as for the fourth place, which is a pathway to European cups. In particular, "Polissya" with the level of play they have been demonstrating lately may not only end up without the Cup but also lose in the championship to "Kryvbas" or "Karpaty". Also, fierce competition is expected among the outsiders. I am convinced that both "Vorskla" and "Chornomorets" have not resigned themselves to their recent failures. There is still much interesting ahead.
