Two Championship clubs have been promoted to the EPL early

After another round of the Championship (the second-tier division of England), the names of two teams that have guaranteed their promotion to the English Premier League at the end of the current season are now known.

Neither “Leeds” nor “Burnley,” which currently occupy the first and second positions in the league table respectively, can drop to the third place anymore: with two rounds left until the end of the Championship, “Sheffield United,” which is currently in third place, is 8 points behind both leaders and, therefore, has no theoretical chance of catching up to them.

Recall that according to the regulations, the top two teams in the Championship at the end of the season are promoted directly to the EPL, and the teams finishing in places three to six (currently “Sheffield United,” “Sunderland,” “Bristol City,” and “Coventry”) will play a playoff (semifinals, final) for the remaining third spot in the elite division.

As for the losers of the current season in the EPL, the names of two teams are already known — “Leicester” and “Southampton,” both of which have been relegated to the Championship early. They will almost certainly be joined by “Ipswich,” which still has a slim chance of retaining its spot in the elite division, but in the upcoming round of the English championship they might lose it.
