Andriy Shevchenko: “The cleats that Ian Rush gave me were small, but I still played in them once...”

“When I was 13, I went on a tour with the children’s team of Kyiv’s ‘Dynamo’. We played in two different tournaments: first in Aberdeen, and then—in Wales, at Ian Rush’s Cup.

We became the winners of the second tournament, and I was recognized as the best player. This was especially significant because Rush himself gave me a pair of Nike cleats.

Despite the fact that the cleats were small for me, I cherished them for many years, because everyone knew him; he was a legend of ‘Liverpool’. One time, I still tried to play in them, but I played only until my big toes poked through the toe!,” said Shevchenko, according to FourFourTwo.
