“The problems of the Ukrainian national team did not start in Canada. The crisis has been ongoing for a year,” — journalist

Journalist Serhii Tishchenko shared his thoughts on the current issues in the game of the Ukrainian national team.

“The problems of the Ukrainian national team did not start in Canada. Since Euro-2024, the team has not impressed. The crisis has been ongoing for a year. They may gather for individual matches, but the overall picture does not impress.

I believe that Rebrov is a qualified and capable coach. Serhii Stanislavovych is more of a club coach; he needs to work with players every day. For example, Hansi Flick also turned out to be ineffective with the national team, but everything is fine at the club level. Rebrov is a tactician, not a motivator. The Ukrainian national team needs a coach for whom the players will fight, bite, and tear up the pitch.

For me, the unequivocal candidate number one here is Ihor Yovichevych (yesterday this specialist left the position of head coach of the Bulgarian “Ludogorets,” with whom he achieved a treble in the 2024/25 season, — ed.). He will be able to charge the players with energy and immense desire. In the current conditions, that is the most important thing.

Rebrov has club offers. Especially from the Middle East. I understand that in the current realities, he cannot just leave the Ukrainian national team. Sometimes you have to make not very reputational decisions so that it won’t hurt so much later. Right now, Rebrov is suffering himself and the national team is suffering. We need to change something if we are thinking realistically about the 2026 World Cup,” — Tishchenko wrote on his Telegram channel.
