The new head coach of "Shakhtar" Arda Turan shared his expectations from working with the Donetsk club.
Arda Turan"First of all, like "Shakhtar", we will play attacking football, that’s for sure. But more importantly, in my opinion, we have two main goals. One of them is a team goal, the other is personal individual goals. I know that every player has personal goals, but the team goal is more important. Pass, reaction, and courage on the field — these are three things I like.
What I hate the most... is when a player comments on negative moments — that’s not his job. My job is to comment on negative moments. They exist to turn negative into positive, to help my friends.
The point is, whatever we do, I don’t want the players to be afraid of anything. Whatever we do, we will do it with joy, and in our country, Ukraine. In our country, we should bring people more joy when they need it. They are going through tough times, difficult ones. And I, Arda Turan, want to bring them joy, happiness, everything I can do and everything I can do on the field. I come to Ukraine to bring joy to this country. If I am here, I will be there with all my heart.
I know that "Dynamo" (Kyiv) is an important opponent. I have a lot of respect for them. But my goal is to never let them become champions of Ukraine again. But when we can play against each other, we can learn from each other and respect each other. And what we need in our country, I say again about our country Ukraine, we need that.
My first goal is undoubtedly to become champions of Ukraine again. That is our primary goal, and in the short term, we aim to play in Europe in matches that have the word "final" in their titles, such as quarter-finals, semi-finals, or finals. We have to make an effort to achieve this," Turan said in an interview with the official site of "Shakhtar".
