“Taloverov is currently inferior in class to Zabarniy and Matviyenko,” said the former defender of the Ukrainian national team

Former defender of the national team of Ukraine Sergey Diryavka shared his thoughts on the transfer of the defender of the Ukrainian national team Maxim Taloverov from “Plymouth” to “Stoke City”.

“It is very good that Taloverov did not drop in class with “Plymouth”, but will continue to play in the prestigious Championship now as part of his new team “Stoke City”. Although, of course, it is regrettable that the cooperation with “Plymouth” was so short. Because stylistically, the “City” suited Taloverov when the low block defense allowed the Ukrainian stopper to showcase his virtues: quality play in the “second tier”, skilled tackling in duels. In this component, Maxim noticeably improved, as well as his ability to anticipate the flow of events on the field.

Will Taloverov continue to progress at “Stoke City”? He is ambitious, works well on correcting mistakes, and thanks to his physique, he has a chance to eventually end up in an EPL club that bets on counter-attacking football. However, the main thing is that he quickly fits into the playing schemes of “Stoke City”.

As for Maxim’s prospects in the national team, he currently falls behind Ilya Zabarniy, whom I consider one of the strongest stoppers in Europe, and the experienced Nikolai Matviyenko. But every game in the Championship will help Taloverov become stronger, and if he improves, particularly with the development of attacks, he will not be limited to the role of a rotation player in the main team of the country,” said Diryavka.
