The legendary forward of Kyiv’s Dynamo and the USSR national team Oleg Blokhin commented on our resource’s selection of the top ten best and significant goals of his career at the request of Dynamo.kiev.ua.
— Choosing only ten goals... I’ve scored so many. Well, right off the bat, I would remember two goals against “Bayern” in the return match for the UEFA Super Cup in 1975. And the goal against “Saint-Étienne,” which is listed as the 10th, I would honestly call ordinary in terms of execution — I just played for a rebound.
But, in principle, all the goals were not easy to score, they were all the result of hard work.
Also, let it be considered that the goal against “Bayern” in the first Super Cup match should always be in first place in all such selections, but I might have put the goal against “Celtic” (1986, Champions Cup, 3:1, — ed.) in that position for myself. It so happened that that match fell on my birthday. And I had just turned 34. A very memorable goal for me.
— And it’s quite non-standard, it’s hard to find similar goals when you scored from a free kick over the wall...
— Yes, because Blokhin was an unpredictable striker! (Laughs). Who knew that everything would be like that in that moment with “Celtic”? I think no one.
I also remember that they often said Blokhin doesn’t play with his head. But here are the goals against “Zorya,” “Spartak.” And how many other balls I scored with my head: against “Shakhtar” in the Cup, and against Czechoslovakia.
And I also scored with my right foot, they said that Blokhin’s right foot is only for walking. I scored with my right against the same Ireland.
But it’s really hard for me to choose so few of my goals. If I start choosing, it definitely won’t be just ten. It’s probably easier for the fans to do it. And how many goals against “Spartak”? And all of them were important because our rivalry was very principled at that time.
— And the goal against “Zenit” was just magnificent.
— I don’t even know how many meters it was to the goal!
— In that episode, it seemed that you had no other choice but to shoot, despite such an impressive distance.
— Yes. But such shots are more of a gamble anyway — you hit or you don’t hit...
