Former forward of Donetsk “Shakhtar” Andriy Vorobey shared his thoughts on the failed matches of Ukrainian clubs in the 2nd qualifying round of the Conference League. Recall that last Thursday, “Alexandria” lost to Belgrade’s “Partizan” (0:2), and Zhytomyr’s “Polessia” suffered a defeat in the match against a representative from Andorra — “Santa Coloma” (1:2).
— What can we talk about if we are already losing to Andorra! We need to think about this. The fact that “Alexandria” can lose was generally expected. Alexandria finished second in the UPL, and they did well. But many footballers from the team left.
— Still, “Alexandria” created many chances in the match against “Partizan”.
— And still, nobody bets on “Alexandria” in the European cups. However, there are big hopes for “Polessia.” Yes, I am confident that in the second match, “Polessia” will win and proceed further. I am sure of this. But for Ukraine’s coefficient and for everything else (like earning some money), a team with such ambitions should not play like that. They should not play like that and lose to Andorra! Sorry, Dima, I hadn’t heard of such a team.
— Although Rotan said before the match that “Santa Coloma” is the champion of Andorra. He probably meant that the team has won its league 13 times in total and is the most titled team in the country.
— What difference does it make! Where is Andorra? Andorra is smaller than the city of Zhytomyr! A team should not lose like that. I understand that this is football. Anything can happen. Strong teams lose to weak ones.
— It’s being said that Andorran football is on the rise now.
— Right now, many teams are on the rise. But we cannot afford to lose to such teams. But I will summarize again! I am confident that “Polessia” will proceed further. I am sure they will get through.
— “Alexandria” conceded goals from young players — from 18-year-old Kostić and 19-year-old Ugrešić. And the Alexandrians had chances to score many times.
— There are always chances. But we expected less from “Alexandria.” We expected more from “Polessia.” Especially with such ambitions, such transfers! Everyone is expecting some third force in Ukraine and in general in the European cups from the UPL. But there was some miscalculation here.
