Razvan Lucescu: “Kyiv’s Dynamo brought my father back to life and made him happy again”

Razvan Lucescu, the son of renowned Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu, recalled how his father decided to head Kyiv’s Dynamo.

“At that time, it was very hard for my father. He needed to coach. He did not feel well, was not happy at home, was not happy without work, he seemed to be losing his strength. He would wake up in the morning, go for a walk, read, do everything he could. But he was not happy.

I remember that we were together in Saudi Arabia, in Riyadh. My father then left to discuss an offer from ‘Dynamo’. He really hesitated.

He was convinced. Then he returned to Bucharest and changed his mind, decided not to go to Kyiv. But the representatives of ‘Dynamo’ spoke to him on the phone and convinced him again! However, later my father reconsidered. And only then, eventually, he made the final decision to accept the offer from ‘Dynamo’.

It’s very easy to judge from the outside. He was at ‘Shakhtar’ for 12 years! But in the end, it was not a fan who played it, but a professional. Even with his feelings.

And Kyiv’s ‘Dynamo’ brought him back to life and made him happy again. He won trophies again, and raised young players who were then sold to other clubs,” said Lucescu Jr. as reported by golazo.ro.
