“I’m not sure it was a football match,” says Slot about the victory over Newcastle

Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot commented on the victorious match of the 2nd round of the Premier League against Newcastle.

“I’m not sure if I witnessed a football match. It was standard after standard, long throw-ins after long throw-ins. This match wasn’t based on tactics. But I liked our resilience. The first 30–45 minutes were very difficult, but we didn’t lose our composure, we looked cohesive.”

“When the opponent is down to ten men, you expect it to be a big advantage for you, however, when the goalkeeper continuously takes free kicks, the absence of an opponent’s player is completely neutralized. Therefore, we found it difficult to seal the deal for the win,” said Arne Slot.
