Officially. UEFA has allowed clubs to make one substitution in their lineup for European competitions in case of a serious playe

The UEFA Executive Committee held its latest meeting, during which, among other things, it made a decision regarding a new regulation concerning club lineups for European tournaments.

The UEFA Executive Committee approved an amendment to the regulations of the UEFA men's club tournaments for the 2025/26 season, allowing for a temporary substitution of a maximum of one outfield player who has suffered a long-term injury or is ill for an extended period, during the tournament’s overall phase up to and including the sixth round.

The reason for this amendment is the desire to prevent unfair reductions in team lineups and to protect players from additional strain.
