Pavel Polehenko: «Football is unpredictable, and Karpaty will try to prove this in the match against Dynamo»

The midfielder of Lviv’s Karpaty, Pavel Polehenko, talked about what he expects from the match against his former team, Kyiv’s Dynamo, in the 7th round of the Ukrainian championship. This match will take place next Saturday, September 27, in Lviv.

Pavel Polehenko

— Ahead is a match against Dynamo. Is it hard to expect a positive outcome?

— You are asking such a question. How can I say anything about the future? We definitely want to achieve a positive result, that is what we are preparing for, but how it will all turn out is hard to say. And do you know how we will play against Dynamo? (Smiles).

— Nobody can know that, but the favorite in the match is obvious, it’s Dynamo.

I respect your opinion, but let me give you an example. After the lost match against Polesie, a journalist told me that in the next game it would be difficult for the Lviv team to expect a positive outcome against Shakhtar because, on paper, the miners are obvious favorites. In the end, it all ended in a draw. It’s important to understand that paper doesn’t play in football. Football is unpredictable, and Karpaty will try to prove this next Saturday.

— Surely, the favorite doesn’t always win. For instance, Karpaty was, for me and not only, the favorite in the game against Kudrivka, but that match ended in a draw as well.

— And you turned out to be wrong.

— Yes, because the favorite of this game couldn’t win against a newcomer in the UPL.

— That is your subjective opinion.

— Then let me ask one last time about Dynamo. What are the strong points of the Kyiv team?

— We haven’t analyzed Dynamo’s actions yet, but I can definitely say that they are a grand of domestic football. The Dynamo players also try to play offensively, act aggressively, and press, so I believe we are in for an interesting match.
