UEFA wants to punish Crystal Palace for fans' chant «In the air, there were 9 Russian drones, and Mateta shot them down»

Crystal Palace may face punishment from UEFA for an incident during the Conference League match against Dynamo.

As reported by Sportbible, Crystal Palace could be sanctioned for the behavior of their fans, who chanted «In the air, there were 9 Russian drones, and Jean-Philippe Mateta shot them down» during the match. The fans adapted this chant from the English national team supporters' chant about «Ten German bombers…».

Now, this incident is grounds for sanctions from UEFA: «According to Article 16(2)(e) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, clubs are responsible if their supporters display "words, objects, or any other means to convey a provocative message that is not suitable for a sports event, including provocative messages of a political, ideological, religious, or offensive nature,» the statement reads.

As a result, UEFA may impose a fine on Crystal Palace and also partially close the stands of their home stadium to fans during upcoming matches.
