The coach of the Iceland national team, Arnar-Bergmann Gyunnleigsson, spoke with journalists ahead of the match against the Ukrainian national team in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
— Ukraine has many very good footballers — top players who play for leading national teams and clubs around the world. They have true masters, especially in defense. For example, a player from Paris Saint-Germain, who is probably worth more than our entire team combined. There’s Dovbik, the forward from Roma. And of course, Zinchenko — probably the most famous, as we follow English football the most. So, this national team has only top-class players — real strength and skill.
Do I know Zinchenko? No, I don’t know him personally, just follow his career. He is a true professional who has achieved a lot with the national team. This is just a fantastic team — they are currently ranked about 27−28 in the world rankings, significantly higher than us. They are a top national team. They played well against France, but then in that match against Azerbaijan things didn’t go the best — that can happen in tough away games. Perhaps because of that, they will come here not in their best shape, without the former momentum, and I hope we can take advantage of that — our guys are in good form and determined, — said Arnar-Bergmann, among other things.
