The head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Serhiy Rebrov, commented on the victories over Iceland and Azerbaijan, as well as spoke about the team’s mood ahead of the matches for the 2026 World Cup qualification, which will take place in November.
’The toughest match was probably in Iceland, because it was really a battle, we were winning, the opponent was catching up. We won a truly important match that brought us back into the fight for the World Cup qualification.
We have only played these two games. The matches against France and Iceland will be in almost a month. Now it is very important to analyze these games and prepare very seriously for the decisive matches. I always say that we need to focus on every game, prepare for every game, and after everything, we’ll see what the result will be. Yes, we have a chance to qualify from first place, but these will indeed be two strategic games where we need to think about how to use the players. The decisive match will be against Iceland.
We are not waiting for a positive attitude, we are waiting for a fighting spirit. In every game, the mood is to work because these are tough times, the players understand who they are playing for and give their all. I think the focus should be on concentrating on every episode. These players know how to play football at a really high level, but it is very important that when we go out on the field, we are a team and play at 100%. The mood is to show our maximum,' said Rebrov.
