«Pavlov raised Shaparenko. He was like a grandson to him,» — former player of Mariupol

Former Mariupol defender Maksym Zhychykov recalled playing in the team alongside current Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Mykola Shaparenko.

Maksym Zhychykov

— You played in Mariupol with a very young Mykola Shaparenko.

— Yes. Everyone says Pavlov raised him. He took Shaparenko into the team when he was young and began featuring him in the UPL. Then he was brought to Dynamo.

— How did Pavlov treat Shaparenko?

— He loved him. He was like a grandson to him. (Smiles). He treated him well, believed in him, and allowed him everything, as the young player showed drive and some sort of passion. That’s what was crucial.

— When will Shaparenko go to Europe?

— That’s a question for Dynamo’s management. (Smiles). I think when a good offer comes, they’ll let him go easily.
