«We are currently fighting for the highest positions. Surely every team wants to reach European competitions. But we need to realistically assess the situation and be ready for European competitions. Because, as recent years show, Ukrainian teams enter European competitions and are eliminated in the first round. I don’t think it benefits the country in any way.

It’s necessary to have two squads for European competitions. The team should be prepared for European competitions. We are working to achieve the highest positions. But there’s still a lot of work to be done, the team is still developing. We have many new players, but we need to look for more to increase competition. The higher the competition, the faster players develop.

So we definitely aim to reach European competitions, but we need to be prepared for them,» Ponomarev said at a press conference after yesterday’s match against «Kolos» (1:0) in the 9th round of the Ukrainian Championship.
