«This transfer is panic.» Zinchenko’s loan to Nottingham Forest is among the top five worst EPL transfers of summer 2025

GiveMeSport has compiled its version of the 12 worst transfers of English Premier League clubs during the summer 2025 transfer window.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

In fifth place on this anti-ranking is the loan of Arsenal’s Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Zinchenko to Nottingham Forest.

«The transfer of the Ukrainian was somewhat of a panic move, as Nottingham Forest wanted to sign Javi Galán from Atletico, but this deal fell through on the last day of the transfer window.

Zinchenko does not fit well into Forest’s current lineup: he is unsuitable for playing with a high defensive line, which Angelos Postecoglou (the head coach of Nottingham Forest, — ed. note) likes to use, due to defensive shortcomings,» the publication explained the inclusion of Zinchenko’s loan in the list of failed transfers.

In addition, the most unsuccessful transfer of summer 2025 in the EPL is recognized as the move of goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City to Burnley. In second place is defender Jean-Clair Todibo (Nice — West Ham), and in third, goalkeeper Mads Hermansen (Leicester — West Ham).
