Honored coach of Ukraine Myron Markevych shared his impressions of the main round match of the Conference League between 'Shakhtar' and 'Legia'.
— I don’t know, but you can’t play football like that. Why 'Shakhtar' looked so weak is a question for the coaches and players. To not create a single moment throughout the match is terrible. And the last 15 minutes, something completely incomprehensible was happening on the field.
’Shakhtar' plays yesterday’s football — they roll the ball back and forth across the field. No one takes the game on themselves, no one exposes themselves, everything is done in small steps. Maybe they are preparing for 'Kudrivka'.
I don’t understand why Riznyk didn’t play. I’m sure Dmytro wouldn’t have let in those two goals. They could have put Fesiun on 'Kudrivka' on Sunday, and now it turns out they 'sidelined' the guy. Yes, 'Legia' has problems right now, but they have experienced players who took their chance.
I don’t want to get personal, but I’m surprised by what a number of players are doing in 'Shakhtar'. Why is this necessary? No one in 'Shakhtar' wants to take the game on themselves, not even the Brazilians. They need to be demanded of this! Why else were they bought? 'Legia' played defensively, and they needed players who would not be afraid to take the game on themselves, not just tick-tock with short cross passes.
Who did I like among 'Shakhtar' players? That guy who scored the goal, Luca Meirelish. He was more or less okay. At least he tried something. Konoplia was active, gave an assist. No one else to mention. 'Shakhtar' was standing still, it feels like they were playing just to have a good dinner. That’s not how you play in European cups. It’s not possible! You can lose, but the game itself raises a lot of questions. This is standing football, — said Markevych.
