Journalist Serhiy Tyshchenko shared his thoughts on the coach of Kyiv 'Dynamo' on his Telegram channel.
«I speak openly — for me, the main candidate for the position of head coach of 'Dynamo' is Ihor Kostiuk.
’Dynamo' has already appointed club legends, sports directors, people without experience, 'washed-up pilots'. So why not try to appoint the U-19 coach? In the current situation, it certainly won’t be worse.
Everything Kostiuk has achieved in coaching is solely his merit. He didn’t have a name like Khatskevych, Rebrov, or Shovkovskyi. On a professional level, he never caught stars from the sky, never was a player of the first team of 'Dynamo', nor did he play for the Ukrainian national team.
In its time, Rukh had a successful story with Ponomaryov. Hryhorii Kozlovskyi appointed the U-19 coach when the team was falling apart under Kuchuk. It became a trend. Then Veres, Kolos, Polissia appointed coaches from youth teams.
Kostiuk has been working with 'Dynamo U-19' since the 2016/2017 season, when the Spaniards left with Rebrov. He knows the young players at the club, understands how to work with them. For 'Dynamo', the development of its youth is one of the club’s priorities. As far as I know, Ihor Volodymyrovych was one of those who once spotted Zabarnyi.
I am confident that he would greatly help to restart the careers of Brazhko, Yatsyk, Vivcharenko, possibly Popov (if possible). He would seriously bring Zakharchenko, Andreyko, and Redushko into the first team.
The possible appointment of Kostiuk should be a strategic decision. With the desire to build a team that will not disgrace in European competitions. One that plans to play in the Champions League. Sell players. This should be the decision of the new sports director Andriy Yarmolenko. Decision and trust.
At the U-19 level, there is a replacement in the person of Yuriy Moroz. This is not a problem.
If Kostiuk gets his chance, he must not repeat Shovkovskyi’s mistakes. Yarmolenko needs to finish. There should not be a player-sport director in the team.
Kostiuk needs to form his coaching staff. Karas, Husiev, Mykhailov, Venglynsky, Fedorov, Kulyba — these are not the people with whom you will build a strong team. A nice guy is not a profession. A goalkeeper coach from outside, a fitness coach, and an analyst are needed. At one time, Ponomaryov at 'Rukh' gathered a staff around him, and then success came. The same Shchekotylin came from 'Dnipro-1', who greatly helps in analysis and tactics.
