Goalkeeper of LNZ becomes fourth goalkeeper-assistant in the Ukrainian championship in the 2025/2026 season

For the fifth time in 2025 and the fourth time in the 2025/26 season, a UPL club goalkeeper became the author of a decisive pass in a Ukrainian championship match. The trend towards verticalization in Ukrainian football continues, and it would be interesting to hear experts' opinions on this matter. Especially since before 2025, the last time a goalkeeper assisted was back in May 2019.

The hero of the round this time was Oleksiy Palamarchuk, whose long pass was somewhat unexpected for Metalist 1925’s central defenders Artem Shabanov and Yevhen Pavlyuk, allowing Prosper Obahu to get into a striking position and make a shot that secured LNZ’s victory, situationally moving them to first place in the standings.

Interestingly, during this same period (since the 2018/19 season), goalkeepers have been making assists in all top-5 championships. The most were in England (22), and the least in Spain (5).

The undisputed leader in this category is Ederson (Manchester City), who made six assists, half of them in the last season.
