The defender of Kyiv’s «Dynamo» Kostiantyn Vivcharenko summed up the results of the Ukrainian Cup’s 1/8 final match against Donetsk’s «Shakhtar» (2:1).
— The emotions are positive because we haven’t beaten «Shakhtar» for about three or four years. And now, with a victory like this, we completely outplayed them in the second half. So, the emotions are overwhelming.
— The atmosphere today was the best in a long time. How much did it add to your strength?
— You saw how we ran in the second half. So, thanks to the fans for coming today and supporting us. And we rewarded them with a victory.
— There were two different halves in your performance: in the first, you played more defensively, while in the second, you pressed the opponent more. What was the reason for such a contrasting play?
— Perhaps there was some nervousness in the first half. And after conceding a goal, there was no point in sitting back in defense, and we had to fight back.
— After the match with «Kryvbas,» Vladyslav Kabaev said that Andriy Yarmolenko gave a speech to the team. Players mentioned this before as well. Was it the same in the break this time?
— Yes, it happened, but it will stay in the locker room.
— Did this speech significantly impact the team?
— Of course, when one of the team’s leaders gives such an inspiring speech, it motivates us.
— Recently, «Dynamo» has been scoring more from set pieces. Does this make you happy?
— Everything that we manage to achieve in the game is thanks to the work done during training.
— Can we say that Guerrero was a «joker» today, coming on as a substitute and scoring the winning goal?
— He also came on and scored in the previous match against «Kryvbas,» and today as well. What can I say — a beauty. (Smiles).
— Did you explain to the newcomers what this match means to the fans?
— I think they understood themselves that «Shakhtar» is one of the strongest teams in Ukraine, representing our country in Europe as well. So, there was no need to say anything — they just needed to go out on the field and do their job.
— On Sunday, there’s a match against «Shakhtar» again in the Ukrainian championship. What interesting insights did you gain for yourself in today’s match against the «miners»?
— We need to transfer today’s game to the upcoming championship match. (Smiles).
