Former Kyiv Dynamo forward Oleg Salenko shared his emotions about yesterday’s match between his former team and Donetsk Shakhtar (1:3) in the 11th round of the Ukrainian championship.
— Oleg, what are your impressions of the game of our giants?
—.
— Why?
— Because I didn’t see any substantial play. Yes, there were a lot of emotions, but I didn’t see any constructive actions from either Dynamo or Shakhtar. I was bored watching the confrontation of the strongest Ukrainian clubs.
— When did you realize that the Miners would not miss their opportunity?
— Probably in the middle of the second half. Dynamo had some pressure, but Kyivans were extremely lacking sharpness and thoughtful actions near the opponent’s goal.
— Emotionally, was this game better than the cup one a few days ago?
— These matches cannot be compared. These are different tournaments. Dynamo won and eliminated Shakhtar from the list of contenders. Today the Miners won, but they haven’t removed the competitor from their path. The whole struggle in the championship is yet to come.
— In your opinion, what is the main reason for Dynamo’s defeat to Shakhtar?
— In the players' heads. Again, this probably stems from the coaches, who evidently cannot properly convey to the athletes how to beat their competitors. Such a result is a catastrophe for Dynamo.
We need a team that runs, not one that does so on holidays and in a single half. It doesn’t matter what’s behind, there’s no power up front. In this regard, in the match with Shakhtar, there was emptiness. In 90 minutes, I didn’t see what Dynamo can win with. No positive hold. Especially since the Miners are not in the best shape right now.
