It turns out Mamdani is an avid soccer fan. The 34-year-old mayor of New York has been loyally supporting one team for 20 years.

«Former coach Arsène Wenger was one of the first managers to bring a number of African players to 'Arsenal'. Some of my early memories are of Kanu, Lauren, Kolo Touré, Emmanuel Eboué, Alex Song... it was truly a part of my life and identity,» Mamdani shared.

It is worth noting that Mamdani was born in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. At the age of 7, he left the African continent with his family and moved to New York, USA. In the New York elections, Mamdani received 50.5% of the votes, defeating Andrew Cuomo (41.4%). US President Donald Trump has already expressed his dissatisfaction with the results, calling the newly elected mayor a communist.
