«The referee greatly influenced the game,» — van Leeuwen after Kryvbas' 0:1 loss to Karpaty

The head coach of Kryvyi Rih’s Kryvbas, Patrick van Leeuwen, criticized the refereeing in yesterday’s match of his team against Lviv’s Karpaty (0:1) in the 12th round of the Ukrainian championship.

«First of all, I want to say that the referee greatly influenced the game. Because, for example, there were fouls on our players, but VAR did not intervene, although I believe it should have. It’s time to raise such an important discussion about the level of refereeing, especially on VAR.

I also didn’t like when the referee laughed with the players. In my opinion, in such a job, he should treat certain moments more seriously.

Our goalkeeper received a red card — that’s his decision. I believe that it is better to concede a goal and continue with eleven players, but he made that decision. And as I mentioned — the referees influenced the game. I would also add that we had our chances, even when playing with ten,» said van Leeuwen.
