Oleksii Palamarchuk: 'I saw there was no penalty, so I wasn’t too worried'

LNZ goalkeeper Oleksii Palamarchuk commented for Football Hub on the away victory over 'Dynamo' in the Ukrainian championship.

Oleksii Palamarchuk

This is the first victory over Kyiv’s 'Dynamo'. What are the emotions, what did you feel after the final whistle?

— We wanted to win first and foremost. We tried very hard, prepared seriously because we failed the previous match and lost. Now we wanted to correct our mistakes. And, of course, to give a victory to our fans who are constantly coming, supporting us in every game. Thank you very much! First of all, we want to win — from match to match, we go out with the desire to win, regardless of the opponent.

Vitalii Ponomaryov changed the tactical scheme today you played with three central defenders. What did the coach say before the game and how well did you manage to execute the plan?

— We failed a bit in the first 15 minutes because the scheme was new, we needed to act more aggressively — that was initially missing. Then we reorganized and started creating counterattacks. The plan was not to give 'Dynamo' any chances. In the first half, we practically didn’t allow them anything, and in the second, we had several moments that we should have realized. I think we deserved this victory today. Yes, the opponent controlled the ball, but the one who scores wins — the result is on our side.

The referee awarded a penalty in the second half. What did you think at that moment?

— I saw there was no penalty, so I wasn’t too worried. Even if they took the shot, I would have tried to remain calm. Records are good, but for me, the team and the result are the main things.

It was noticeable that your partners often pointed out for you to come out for the balls. You acted more cautiously today. Is this because of the previous match, when there was a mistake on the exit?

— No, I wasn’t fixated on that. There were simply moments when I miscalculated the trajectory — the ball flies high, then suddenly drops down. We’ve already analyzed this. Nothing critical, I just didn’t want to risk unnecessary exits. Perhaps I sat a bit too low in the line, providing backup because 'Dynamo' plays very well in the air and shoots from long-range positions. That’s why I was expecting such moments.
